So all the hype and opinion on the turkey puppet is now void, as Dustin failed to qualify from the first semi-final and became one of Ireland's worst performances in Eurovision history. At last Dervish were in the final last year. I,along with many others, expected Dustin to qualify for the final, mostly through novelty, but its clear that, if you ignore any conspiracy theories, that the European public were not taken with the fowl puppet. It's not like the odds were stacked against him, as out of the 19 songs last night, 10 would qualify. Greater than a 50-50 chance and he blew it, not that he'll care anyway. It was interesting watching the contest, that I saw what I would call 4 novelty or quirky acts and of those only one, Bosnia-Herzogovina, got through. It seems like despite the razzmatazz and pyrotechnics visible at these shows, a good song will still win all the time. The term 'good song' is of course, in terms of Eurovision. I think Russia will do very well looking at last nights performances. But we'll see.
As a footnote to last nights Irish debacle, it's as good an excuse to vote No to Lisbon!!
