Seems familiar doesn't it? What are all the government ministers trotting out day after day like a mantra, to vote yes because EU membership has been good for us. But what angered me yesterday was that McCreevy, our EU Commissioner (a position we will lose for large chunks of the time, if Lisbon is passed), speaking on Newstalk 106, attributed EU membership as the main reason for our economic success during the last 10 years. Really? I thought it was our government economic policies (including low corporation taxes, the very thing up for discussion if this treaty is passed) and our workforce that were the main contributors. The EU is there, we have good economic relationships with our neighbours across Europe and we are tied to a central currency and bank. That's it, no great magic there Charlie. Give the Irish some credit at least. And of course, McCreevy is another one who have admitted he hasn't read the treaty. McCreevy has this man of the people air about him, sure why would you read it anyway, just vote yes and all will be well in effect. Not really a cogent argument in favour of it is it?
