Yep. That's what I said. It's become an overblown Oirish celebration of booze, broads and blarney. Who wants to stand in pouring rain (or sleet as is more usual)in some provincial town or village, watch a couple of tractors with a balloon tied to the back and if you're lucky maybe a couple of local tin whistlers will blow to the tune of Yankee Doodle not far behind them. Not me this year, thanks, I've done that far too often in the past, as a child and as an adult and it never left me with a warm glow, I can tell you.
Dublin does do the best parade no doubt, but the amount of rowdiness and trouble makers going around on the day makes you want to get out of the town and home, pronto. Not that I'm against a few drinks to Paddy, but there is a hardcore who, over the past few years, have taken things to excess to the detriment of those who want to enjoy the day out.
My advice? Get a load of popcorn, a few beers or soft drinks if you prefer, watch the Dublin parade on the telly and relax with the family. It's the only way, and I'll let you know who I get on with it.Slainte!!
